Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM)

At Shine Pediatric Dental Co., we use advanced light-based therapies to support your child’s natural healing. Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that uses specific wavelengths of light to reduce inflammation, stimulate repair, and ease discomfort after dental procedures.

Why 1064 nm Light?

While many devices use red light therapy, our in-office system uses a 1064 nm near-infrared wavelength, delivered with the Fotona LightWalker laser.
  • Deeper Penetration: 1064 nm reaches beyond the surface to target tissues more effectively than standard red light (630–660 nm).
  • Enhanced Healing: Improves blood flow, stimulates collagen production, and accelerates tissue repair.
  • Reduced Pain & Inflammation: Clinical studies show faster recovery after extractions, frenectomies, and other procedures.

Red Light Therapy for Home Care

For ongoing comfort and healing at home, we also offer safe red light therapy devices. While red light does not penetrate as deeply as 1064 nm, it is a convenient, effective tool for:
  • Reducing post-surgical discomfort
  • Supporting wound healing
  • Encouraging healthy circulation in soft tissues

Neurobiomodulation

PBM doesn’t just help tissues heal — it also supports the nervous system’s ability to regulate and repair itself. This is called neurobiomodulation.
  • Light energy absorbed by nerve tissues stimulates mitochondria (the cell’s energy centers) to produce more ATP, fueling recovery.
  • The 1064 nm wavelength can influence the trigeminal nerve pathways, which are closely tied to oral function, facial development, and even airway regulation.
  • By calming overactive pain signals and improving cellular energy balance, PBM supports better comfort, reduced inflammation, and healthier function long-term.

Our Approach

By combining clinical-grade PBM in the office with at-home red light options, we give families a holistic toolkit to support recovery, regulate inflammation, and even optimize nervous system balance — all while reducing reliance on medications and helping kids heal more naturally.
